The Danish shipping giant, Maersk, and the agricultural technology company, Syngenta Crop Protection, have announced the extension of their fourth-party logistics (4PL) partnership for a further five years.
Maersk and Syngenta, who last extended their 4PL in 2019, have today renewed their partnership. The basis of this longstanding agreement is to jointly develop sustainable solutions to supply chain problems through optimisation and innovation.
Under the agreement Syngenta will fully outsource its entire supply chain operations to Maersk, which involves managing resources, technology, infrastructure and other logistics providers to develop and deliver customised supply chain solutions.
Maersk cites the centrality of sustainable logistics and both parties’ strong commitments to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the supply chain as a core motivation for the extension. The contract specifies regular reporting on emissions as well as an ongoing dialogue on improving sustainability outcomes as a key indicator of business performance.
Mike Hollands, Global Head of Production & Supply, Syngenta Crop Protection, commented on the renewed partnership: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Maersk, a company that shares our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Syngenta and Maersk have a strong alignment in prioritizing sustainability and driving innovation. Our partnership has proven its value, and we look forward to achieving new milestones together by continuing to develop and implement cutting-edge solutions that optimize our supply chains, leveraging digital logistics and artificial intelligence.”
Dimitris Armenakis, Global Head of Managed by Maersk Portfolio, Maersk, added: “The journey we are on together with Syngenta underpins Maersk’s position as an integrated logistics provider. We thrive by the success of our customers and contribute to this by developing solutions that optimise and simplify their supply chains. We are always looking to innovate on behalf of our customers and add further value to their business.”
The agreement forms part of Maersk’s commitment to achieving zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2050. This, Maersk states, is strongly aligned with Syngenta’s core objective of feeding an increased number of people while reducing harm to the planet.
