MOL to form a technical decarbonisation hub by merging three companies

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that it will merge three group subsidiaries to form a new company that will offer a wide-range of services to support a carbon-neutral maritime industry.

The decision, which will take effect 1 April 2025, will merge three MOL companies: MOL Marine & Engineering (MOLMEC), MOL Ocean Expert (MOLOX), and MOL Ship Tech (MOLST).

MOL has proposed an absorption merger with MOLMEC as the surviving company. The official name of the new company will be announced in March 2025.

The new company, described by MOL as a “professional technical group”, will provide services including maritime and new shipbuilding consulting, maritime human resources training and crew support to operational support and maintenance.

In addition to these services, MOL will: “focus on the use of digital technology to support MOL’s growing business, including the wind power generation business, a key area targeted for investment and expansion.”

The technical group will further MOL’s commitment decarbonising its operations, as MOL explains: “Through its wide-ranging lineup of services, the new company will contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral maritime industry.”
